And the winner is: YOU!

Hopefully by now if you have been reading my blog, you've been able to make some positive changes in your life.  If you haven't, I urge you to go back and read some of my earlier blogs to get some inspiration.

Wherever you are on your journey, it's ok.  It's your journey.  Even if you are only able to make even one permanent change, it's a major victory.  My health and weight took a long time to get as messed up as it did. Believe it or not, when I finally wised up and made small changes one at a time, it didn't take as much time.  I didn't say that it didn't take work or determination.

Do I ever have a hard time? Of course.  The difference is that now after many years of reinforcement, I stop and think about the real reason behind why I'm feeling this way.  If I'm ever having a terrible time of it, I don't beat myself up anymore.  I never tell myself that I'm worthless or a loser. (words that were a daily part of my vocabulary in the past)  My sense of self worth is intact and I move on.  You are absolutely capable of retraining your brain, both in mind set and with your palate.

Whether you begin by eating breakfast like I did, or just add one piece of fruit a day a day, you are heading in the right direction.  Once that one step is repeated enough, it will become a habit. Then add one more small step, perhaps a salad or fresh vegetable at dinner. The key is small but consistent.
Your palate will change and you are absolutely going to be eventually disgusted with the tastes of some "old favorite" junk food.  Really, there is no going back once the taste and nutrition fuel your body and mind.

Make it a habit of rechecking some of my blogs as I continuously update them with new information as well as key points I may have forgotten.

Also, make a point of seeking out farmers markets and try new things.  If you've never had a fresh strawberry right from the garden or tasted an organic heirloom tomato, I guarantee it will be a wonderful experience.  I remember asking a fellow worker if he'd like to share my beautiful purple and deep red heirloom tomato. He said thanks but no thanks.  He hated tomatoes.  I asked him to humor me and he finally agreed.  He said it was the most amazing thing he'd tasted in a long time.  He loved this tomato! There is no substitute for organic local quality.  The prices at farmers markets are also reasonable so it's a win-win or all concerned.

Now that spring is here, (FINALLY in Minnesota) get out and explore.  If you have children, take them with you.  They won't be bored if they get to pick out a few of their favorites and are part of the process.  Remember, the only way to care for others is to care for yourself first.

Blessings.
